Community Involvement

Canaccord’s charitable giving efforts are an important part of our community involvement. We were pleased to participate in and sponsor various initiatives during fiscal 2013, supporting our local communities.

IN CANADA

Canaccord Genuity is pleased to be the title sponsor for The SickKids Foundation’s “Great Camp Adventure” fundraising event, benefiting The Hospital for Sick Children in Ontario (SickKids). The Great Camp Adventure is a fundraising initiative for SickKids, culminating in a challenge-by-choice 20 kilometre adventure walk. Beginning and ending at historic Fort York in the City of Toronto, this event is an adventure for all ages and capabilities, bringing families and the community together to raise money for health initiatives benefiting children. All money raised will benefit the Possibilities Fund, which supports the people, programs, equipment and infrastructure of the world-renowned SickKids Hospital. Canaccord Genuity is honoured to partner with The SickKids Foundation to help improve kids’ health.

Canaccord was also proud to sponsor the 2012 Brazilian Carnival Ball in Toronto, which raised proceeds for the de Souza Institute and the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology, both of which are committed to improving cancer care for patients in Canada. The 2012 event, which took place in September, marked the final Brazilian Ball and celebrated 46 years of contributing to deserving causes in our communities. Canaccord was proud to be part of this farewell event supporting developments in cancer care.

Continuing with the Company’s commitment to improving the health of our communities, Canaccord was a proud sponsor of the British Columbia Children’s Hospital Foundation through its 26th Annual Crystal Ball. This important event raises money for the foundation’s Campaign for BC Children, which is helping to fund the construction of a new children’s hospital in the province. In November 2012, the event raised an astounding $1.1 million, and Canaccord was extremely pleased that its sponsorship could contribute to that achievement.

IN THE US

Canaccord Genuity’s US capital markets group sponsored the seventh annual Trading Day for Kids in New York, which took place on October 25, 2012. 100% of the commission fees generated from designated equity, electronic and agency options trades executed that day benefited Youth, I.N.C. – a charitable organization aimed at improving the lives of and opportunities for children. Canaccord Genuity was pleased to donate approximately $950,000 to this important organization. The New York office also hosted 30 students during the event as part of this program’s “Mentor Day”, where children were able to experience the day-to-day activities of Canaccord Genuity’s New York trading floor.

IN THE UK, CHANNEL ISLANDS AND ISLE OF MAN

the Canaccord Genuity Wealth (International) Charitable Trust has been providing financial support to charitable campaigns in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man since its inauguration in 2004. During fiscal 2013, the Trust donated over £23,000 to various youth programs and health initiatives in the islands. To date, the Canaccord Genuity Wealth (International) Charitable Trust has made donations of nearly £150,000. In addition, and as part of our commitment to supporting education, the offshore business of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management offers a bursary program to two local students for three years of their university studies.

During fiscal 2013, Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management was also proud to be a dedicated supporter of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity that grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes to seriously and terminally ill children around the UK. Canaccord’s UK wealth management division, through the former wealth management business of Eden Financial Limited, has been associated with Starlight for over five years. As a result of employee fundraising and participation in Starlight’s 12 Days of Christmas Charity Run and annual Ski Challenge, the Company raised nearly £8,000, which directly contributed to providing entertainment for children in hospitals and hospices across the UK.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management also demonstrated its commitment to local offshore communities by sponsoring the Young Achievers Award at the Awards for Excellence in the Isle of Man for the sixth consecutive year, and by supporting the Guernsey Adult Literacy Project (GALP) by participating in the “Guernsey Cows on Parade” program. Even more, this business provided financial support and work experience to local university students in the Isle of Man and Guernsey through its bursary scheme, an initiative that began in 2009 with the goal of fostering the development of youth in the communities we operate in.
